TOM BUCHANAN
He's a stone-cold busta who be cheatin' on his girl. He's probably got a few more girls on the side too. Seems like the kinda guy who would do that sorta thing. He really REALLY hates the west. Pretty weird dude if you ask me. -DK (Chapter 1)
Alright, so in chapter 2, this guy straight up just takes the cousin of his wife to a little shindig at his secret place WITH his mistress. Why Nick isn't saying anything to Daisy is beyond me but this, like practically every scene Tom shows up in, really represents and enforces the busta material that Tom is made out of. -DK (Chapter 2) In chapter 7, the stuff really hits the fan. Tom is all like, "Whaddup dude, heard you done been up to some shady bidness. Not cool. Also, stop foolin' around with my wife." Basically, he just blows up and shows his true colors as a hypocritic busta. He can fool around but his wife can't? Man, that's stone-cold. -DK (Chapter 7) In chapter 1, you could tell that Tom was the superior in his marriage with Daisy. He represents "old money" where as Nick and Gatsby represent "new money". -AK-47
He's very snobby and all about the moolah. (chapter 1) - AB
Tom gives an intimidating first expression with his supercilious manner and how he looks. "It was a body capable of enormous leverage-a cruel body" (pg. 7). -JP
Tom revealed his scandalous and very short-tempered side in Chapter 2. He introduced Nick to his side woman, Myrtle, and they all went to a get together at Tom's other apartment. Towards the end of the party, Myrtle was going on and on about Daisy and Tom kept warning her to stop. When she didn't, he broke her nose. -AK-47

In Chapter 7, Myrtle is an idiot who thought that Tom was driving the yellow car and she ran out into the street and got hit by daisy who was driving the car and Tom was astonished to see her body lay dead in George's garage. -AB
Tom's true personality shows through in Chapter 7. When he was talking with Gatsby, he suddenly became very loving and protective over Daisy. He claimed that his love for her never ended. "Why-there're things between Daisy and me that you'll never know, things that neither of us can ever forget." (pg. 132). But we know know that this is not true because he has an affair with Myrtle. -JP
Tom just chillin in his hotel on the hot summer day. -AB

"I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife. Well, if that's the idea you can count me out...Nowadays people begin by sneering at family life and family institutions, and next they'll throw everything overboard and have intermarriage between black and white." (pg. 130) This quote reveals what kind of a character Tom really is. He feels no guilt about his affair with Myrtle but confronts Daisy with her affair with Gatsby. This shows how much of a hypocrite he is. Also this quote shows his stance on discrimination. He is strongly against interracial marriage. -JP
